Primitiv Plastik

Primitiv Plastik is the artist name I use for my solo projects. It includes various disciplines like music, performance, sound-desig and installations.

One of the central concepts behind this pseudonym is to perform live solo drum concerts on mountaintops — places only accessible on foot. These remote, elevated settings are chosen not only for their natural beauty and unique perspective, but also for the physical and symbolic effort they demand — as I carry my drum kit on my back all the way up.
Each performance becomes a shared, immersive experience between the landscape, the artist, and the audience.

Audience members and followers can subscribe to the newsletter to stay updated on upcoming performance hikes and receive the precise GPS coordinates of each mountaintop concert.

Another central aspect of the project is how I discover and connect with new places — through play. I explore the hidden sonic potential of each environment by interacting with its objects, materials, and the unique resonances and architecture that define its spatial identity. This approach led to the recording and production of Furka on the Furka Pass during the summer of 2022.

Furka – Primitiv Plastik

Lucas Wohlhauser –  found objects and stuff, elements

All music composed by Lucas Wohlhauser.

Furka is a collection of 16 tracks recorded at the Furka Pass (2,429m) during the summer of 2022. This work is a sonic experiment deeply inspired by, and emerging from, the place itself.

This project first took the shape of a game — like the ones I used to play as a child, creating tiny worlds out of a few found objects. I would bring all kinds of characters and creatures to life, guiding them through imagined landscapes.

On the Furka pass, I let my imagination run free — armed with my Zoom recorder and a pair of drumsticks — to shape these 16 pieces: entire worlds, stories, and scenes.

Blending sound design, science fiction, and false field recordings, this album is a wondrous journey that takes us to the outer edges of the imagination. A sonic immersion that, in the end, feels strikingly visual.

A huge thanks to Erika Hiltbrunner for leading the research at ALPFOR and for allowing me to use some underground root scans for my covers.
