Klangtauchen

« Ears open! » is the motto of this piece for children aged 6 and up. With the classroom play Klangtauchen, we visit schools and classes in Lucerne and the surrounding area.

Two employees of an extraordinary agency enter the classroom. Without prior notice, they examine the room and everything in it for its acoustic phenomena and sonic properties—including the students and teachers! These sound researchers of everyday school life move chairs, test the blackboard and chalk for volume and rhythmic possibilities, and experiment with understanding quiet and fast speech.

« Everything is sound, » proclaimed composer John Cage, aiming to open ears to hidden sounds and the silence that is never truly silent. And so, the classroom transforms into a magical place where the audience is increasingly involved—until, in the end, everyone explores sounds together, using paper, voices, scissors, and pencils—everything that can be found in a classroom.
